Audiobook Binder 1.16

May 10, 2013 — 7 Comments

Audiobook Binder 1.16 was released yesterday.
List of changes:

  • Added ability to reset audiobook project
  • Fixed bug with bitrate on OS X 10.8
  • Create new chapter for each added file
  • Use meta data from MP3 files for naming chapters (if available) instead of standard “Chapter” text
  • Minor bugfixes

Project has been dormant for almost two years now and this release is just a summary of feature requests received over this period. There might be more bugfix/maintenance releases if future Mac OS X releases will break something. But feature-wise this version (or even previous one) is pretty much what I had in mind when I started developing ABB. The only other thing I’d really like to add is multi-threaded audio encoding but without switching to completely different audio API it’s not possible. And who’s in that kind of hurry for audiobook anyway? :)

  1. Thanks for making the audiobook binder. I just discovered it (I’m a little slow but what do you want for an old lady) My only problem is when I insert files they don’t show in the proper order. Then I have to search and move them. I don’t know why it does that.

Could you add a time counter at the bottom of the files page so I know when I’m near the 24 hour max limit? Just a thought.

    • Hm, this release was supposed to fix file ordering problems. Could you describe how you add files (e.g. by dragging them to window or by pressing Cmd+O), file names, supposed order and the order Audiobook Binder adds them? Thanks

Total time counter shouldn’t be hard to implement. I’ll add it in next release.

  2. Thanks for Audiobook Binder. I have been using it for a while and love the simple user interface. I like the new feature: “Create new chapter for each added file”. However, I was binding a book with hundreds of files that had been separated into folders. Basically one folder per CD (containing all its tracks) for a large CD collection.

Could it be possible to have an option that creates chapters out of each folder instead of each track?

By the way, dragging 3-4 folders into the files window (chapters OFF), left the tracks perfectly organized even though there were 3-4 with the same name (from different CDs).

Thanks for your feedback, I’ll experiment with folder-per-chapter idea. It’s more or less straightforward to implement but there might be different corner cases that are hard to handle so I need to test it first.

  3. Hi, after the update, I get errors like

    5/16/13 11:05:02.568 PM sandboxd[2954]: ([2841]) AudioBookBinder(2841) deny file-write-create /Users/myname/Desktop/myfile.m4b

    and

    5/16/13 11:06:46.000 PM AudioBookBinder[2841]: Conversion failed

    Never got those before.

Is it AppStore version or the regular one? Could you try saving file to any other location, not desktop?

  4. App store version. I’ve also tried saving it to my home directory and to my documents directory. It fails in the middle of the job, even though my input files are fine. I grabbed the non-app-store version, and it worked fine, thanks for making that available. :-)
